Rose Bird was an immediate neighbour of Amos, also living at Station Cottages, Darfield at the same time.

Brother Seth was killed 19 Jan 1910 in a mining accident at Aldwarke Main colliery, Rawmarsh, owned by John Brown & Co. Ltd. According to official records "He was killed by a fall of roof in a working place. He was using a hammer instead of proper timber drawing appliances."
